Tree Top Gardens

Chris is a Landscape Architect whose designs have won numerous awards at the Philadelphia Flower show. It was what drew me to Burke Brothers when I was looking for someone to help with several items that needed attention in our house in the woods 5 years ago. We have a Mid-Century Modern home which sits in the middle of a wooded lot in the middle of a hill. The landscaping was overgrown, the front walk was obscured, the deck was dangerous and didn’t fit with the style/age of the house, and the drainage was all wrong. I believe I referred to it as a “Jurassic Park kind of setting, and that I was waiting for a Tyrannosaurus Rex to pop out from behind one of the huge bushes. Chris came to our home and immediately saw all the possibilities for bringing the exterior up to date, designing landscaping with materials that were more organic and sturdier, changing drainage and building a parking pad that would withstand the test of time, and creating visual wonder from all of the windows in our home, contributing to the overall “treehouse” aspect of our home. All without creating something that was too manicured. Through the use of color and texture Chris designed a space to be enjoyed in all seasons, even winter. The yard feels like it’s supposed to, the fox, deer, rabbits and song birds have all returned, and our home is a hidden retreat, and there is nothing more wonderful than sitting on the deck enjoying a glass of wine in the evening watching the bats and fireflies zipping around. Chris has an excellent eye for detail, perfectly marrying the artistic with the functional, creating wonderful places to sit and enjoy in multiple areas of our yard.
